Clinker Classic amid a Lush Garden Oasis
Owners Notes
What we love about this home
We purchased this property just over 6 years ago. At the time, we were renting nearby and looking for a house of this type. To be honest – we first saw it on a Thursday evening and successfully bid at auction the following Saturday! We were immediately struck by the character and feel of the property. At the time the garden was totally undeveloped and we saw it as a ‘blank canvas’ where we could make a real home – a small and tranquil oasis away from the bustle of life.
We have updated the kitchen, laundry, outdoor entertaining area and studio, while keeping the rest of the home’s character intact.
We have loved being able to share our place with family and friends as well as sitting back and watching the garden grow.
What we love about this suburb:
Preston is a great place to live. We call it ‘the centre of the universe’. Everything we need is within 1.5 km – Preston Market one way, Northland Shopping Centre the other, and all the amenities of High Street and Bell Street.
Sapphire Street is probably the friendliest neighbourhood we know. On the day we moved in, one neighbour left a bunch of flowers to welcome us. Each Christmas the street is closed for a street party. Our neighbours are delightful – we talk in the street, we look out for each other, we share our homegrown produce.
Why we are selling:
We are retiring to a country property, where we can expand on what we have established here.
Our Garden:
- The front garden includes our ‘citrus orchard’ – lemon, lime, orange and mandarin trees (and a kafir lime), a growing hedge of blueberries and a variety of natives and ornamental shrubs and grasses.
- The back garden features a magnificent mulberry tree, peach, apples, pear, olive, passionfruit and an active vegetable patch and raised herb garden.
- Apart from weeding and pruning occasionally, and a little bit of mowing, all the garden needs is water and love.
