Owners Notes

Back in 1997 we developed an Electrical Factory warehouse into two beautiful, carefully well constructed, light filled (warehouse style) residences. Engaging friend William Glover, from Curnow Freiverts Glover, Architects and builder Nick McKimm.

Our aim was to create spacious rooms with soaring ceilings, large sliding doors and windows making the most of its north south orientation, that showcased stunning views of the city and the leafy bluestone laneway. It was important to retain elements of the original building to keep the warehouse vibe over its generous three and a half floors, as seen in the original wooden floors and corner concrete pillars. I loved every moment of being involved in such a wonderful project.

After 28 years the townhouse and the special area of Carlton it inhabits continues to bring great moments. Sitting on the balcony in the early morning, enjoying coffee as the birds sing in the nearby fig trees or having a late afternoon drink watching the sun set over the quiet peaceful bluestone laneway. Entertaining family and friends in the dining room, having the lit up Melbourne City skyline as your backdrop.

What makes it an especially liveable home is it’s layout over the 3.5 floors. Having two separate living rooms, large mezzanine laundry and designated study on the top floor allows everyone to have their own space. It just works so well and with it’s thick walls is remarkably quiet, creating a sanctuary inside. I’ve always loved the bluestone kitchen bench, carefully chosen to reflect Melbourne’s personality.

There is a wonderful mix of people in the friendly neighbourhood. Retired professionals, families and students alike, enjoy the close proximity to Lygon Street and all it has to offer. Everything you need is within walking distance, be it a supermarket, Italian restaurants or the Carlton Wine Room, cafes, pubs such as Jimmy Watson’s with its roof top bar, boutiques, Cinema Nova, King and Godfrey delicatessen or the magnificent Brunetti’s cafe with its delicious cakes, pastries and gelati. A short walk to catch the tram down Swanston Street and you are in the city in minutes, or ride your bike in even less time. Melbourne University is right across the road, and there are lovely nearby parks to stroll in.

This is an exciting and vibrant place to live however after 28 years the time has come to pass the baton on and allow new owners to experience the joy of living in such a wonderful home and neighbourhood.
