Owners Notes
We fell in love with this apartment as soon as we saw it, and will be forever lucky to call it our first home After a long search looking at dozens of apartments over ten years ago, the light and location of this one made it feel like it was totally different to everything else we’d seen. At that point the apartment had not received much attention since it was built. We’ve since updated almost everything: floor boards, carpets, bathroom tiles and taps, lights, air conditioning, blinds, and appliances. Several years ago we made the decision to move out solely due to the fact that our young family had outgrown apartment living. Since then we’ve been fortunate to have excellent tenants who have kept the apartment in good hands. While our time with the apartment has come to an end, the place is full of so many memories that were very reluctant to see it go!
The location makes you feel like the city of Melbourne’s best features belong to you. You can make the State Library’s La Trobe Reading Room your office, and the Victoria Market your weekly shop. You can wander into any evening event in the city, or just do Finders Lane brunch on a whim. You’ll be a five minute walk from Melbourne’s best pizza (D.O.C.), the cafe’s of Brunswick St, or a picnic by the ponds of Carlton Gardens. Expect your friends to invite themselves over to see the New Years Eve fireworks. After our son was born we visited the incredible Children’s Gallery at the Melbourne Museum almost every day (he had to learn the hard way to lower his playground standards!).
Yet for its CBD adjacent location, the nature of the apartment and the Drummond Court complex gives it a totally different feel to others in or near the city. The sense of community among the neighbouring residents, the tranquillity of the courtyard garden, and the distance from any busy road make it easy to forget that you’re so close to the city. The fact that direct sun light enters every room meant that we never had the lights on during the day, and the generous size of the kitchen and bathroom afforded us plenty of space to live comfortably as a couple and later as a family of three. We used to have our morning coffee looking over the beautiful Drummond St terrace rooftops, and have our dinner watching the sun set beside the city skyline. In spring we’d open all the doors and windows to let in the scent of the pear tree blossoms on warm days.
Sad as we are to let it go, we like the idea that it’s someone else’s turn to enjoy it. We’re sure that you will get as much out of it as we have.
