Owners Notes
We’ve lived at Austin Way for more than nine years, relishing the apartment, our neighbours and community from day one, and all the pleasures, facilities and convenience of Fitzroy North. In that time we’ve have had two children; now that each needs their own bedroom we’ve made the hard but inevitable decision to move on.
To augment the apartment’s functionality after our children were born, we updated the bathroom and kitchen comprehensively. In the kitchen, we added new cabinetry, a fully integrated Bosch dishwasher and an induction cooktop. We’ll miss this small but mighty space for its efficiency and minimalist-industrial aesthetic; and the new green cabinetry, which is beautifully complementary to the building’s surrounds. In the bathroom, we installed a full sized Kaldewai bath along with wall and floor tiles in subtle neutral tones, and upgraded to an in-wall cistern. And in 2020, we replaced the decking on the balcony adjoining the master bedroom. Like all Neometro spaces, the apartment has intelligent storage throughout, and we’ve enhanced this by reconfiguring previously unused space – adding to under-stair storage, for example. As well as ample internal storage, there’s a capacious garage with room for two cars as well as bikes, tools, and other sundries in need of a secure place.
One of our favourite aspects of the south-facing interior is the incredible natural light – it drenches all living spaces, and there’s rarely a need to turn the lights on during the day. We especially love the sunset and sunrise from the lounge and bedrooms – and regular early morning hot-air balloon sightings. The views of Edinburgh Gardens are spectacular, the canopy changing subtly with the seasons.
Austin Way is quiet and private enough to feel secluded, but with excellent food, retailers and public transport in close proximity the minute you step outside. Wild Things, Loafer, Pinotta and Piedemonte’s the Edinburgh Gardens, the local library and tram stops are all a very brief stroll away. And the apartment is set in a truly wonderful neighbourhood, with a warm, supportive community. It’s also set in a safe building, with welcoming neighbours (90 per cent owner-occupier); we even have an Austin Way WhatsApp group. In short, we’ve no doubt you’ll enjoy life at no.9 immensely, just as we have.
