Owners Notes
23 Kemp St has been a fantastic family home for us over more than 23 years. Its layout has provided the perfect combination of privacy and communal living, particularly with the addition of the back deck in more recent years. The large back living room, plus the deck and wide back garden have been host to many joyful gatherings over the years, including 18ths, 21sts, Christmas and New Year events. And those wanting to escape the din have always been able to find sanctuary in the quieter front rooms.
Psarakos Market is 10 minutes walk away and, with its butcher, chicken shop, delis, fruit and veg, bakeries and well-stocked bottle shop, has been a regular haunt for us. Food and entertainment options abound along High St, from the Plenty Rd junction in the north to the Westgarth precinct in the south, all waking distance away. The one-screen Thornbury Picture House, converted from an old petrol station, is a particular delight, but there are many others (e.g. 1800 Lasagne, Carwyn Cellars, Joe’s Shoestore).
As lovers of live music, we have been blessed to be able to walk to and from venues like the The Croxton, the Northcote Social Club, the Northcote Theatre, Shotkickers, the Thornbury Theatre, Open Studio and 303. And old favourite The Lomond is just over the Merri Creek in East Brunswick.
The proximity to Croxton Station and the two tram lines means you can be at the MCG in 20 minutes, the Brunswick St strip, Edinburgh Gardens and bustling Preston Market in 10 minutes, and the city (three ways) in under half an hour.
For bike riders and walkers, the Merri Creek Trail is close at hand through or around Northcote Golf Course, with options to head south towards Dight Falls and the Yarra Trail or north to Coburg Lake and beyond.
In summary, it has been a wonderful place to live, inside and outside!
