Owners Notes
What we love about this home:
A simple cottage of 154 years enjoying modern amenities, we chose to maintain the old Carlton terrace feel.
Cool in summer, easy to warm in winter, this is a sturdy house offering privacy and quiet enjoyment.
Like Roman houses, it is hidden behind a garden wall; a real surprise oasis awaiting beyond the gate. All three courtyards provide extra living spaces.
Not knowing the age of our bluestone cellar, the two rooms at the rear date from the early 1980s exactly replicating the original 19th century stables.
The silence of the house at night and the moonlight that floods the bedroom through age-old window panes must be experienced to be fully appreciated. A perfectly positioned house 100 steps to the No.96 tram and Melbourne’s best Italian restaurants and wine bars and adjacent to groovy Fitzroy. We have loved it here.
What we love about this suburb:
Carlton's wide leafy quiet boulevards and big picture skies. The European heritage is palpable.
Why we are selling:
Selling the house is the right move for us at this point in our lives acknowledging what a lucky, happy, productive home we have enojyed for a quarter of a century.
Any other information:
Striving to maintain the character of this little house, we chose to reuse the original glass when renewing the downstairs bedroom window. It was rattling in its frame back when Ned Kelly roamed the land.
