A perfect blend of tradition and modern living, nestled in leafy serenity

Tucked away in a leafy tree lined street, this Californian Bungalow skillfully fuses traditional features with a timeless architect designed extension and glorious landscaped garden.
Warm and inviting from the street with a low maintenance front garden, the wide central hall reveals soaring ceilings, polished timber floors and a light filled tranquil home. Over one expansive level and approx. 599sqm of land, it features two stylish bathrooms, four spacious bedrooms (or three and formal living), with three bedrooms accessed from the hallway and the spacious main bedroom at the rear with a northern outlook to a leafy garden, plus walk in robe and study. The generous living space features a sophisticated formal living room with a cosy fireplace. Designed to take full advantage of the abundant northern and eastern natural light, it has been cleverly expanded to the rear, creating a spacious open-plan kitchen, living, and dining area that seamlessly connects to the extensive deck and beautiful private garden. Ideal for entertaining the kitchen offers ample custom-built cabinetry and bench space, island bench/breakfast bar, and quality stainless steel appliances.
Other notable features include solar panels, hydronic heating, ceiling fans, split system heating and cooling and large separate laundry.
In a highly desirable area, this long held family home is a short walk to acres of parklands, including Darebin Parklands, and Pitcher Park, plus Alphington Station, local shops and cafes, the weekly farmers market and only moments further to Station Street Village, High Street, and schools.

Owners Notes

It’s difficult to condense the epic adventure of our 35 years here onto one page. Our first home, an un-renovated Californian bungalow purchased in 1988 that we slowly put our stamp on. Restumping, flooring, rewiring, new windows, heating; the first renovation in 1993 and second major extension in 2000 as our family grew. We demolished lots of concrete, an ugly carport and bungalow, and planted trees to create our urban oasis.

Alphington gets under your skin… the wild and beautiful Darebin Parklands over the back fence, the Wetlands, Yarra River walks and bike trails. We wake up to birdsong, zero traffic, and enjoy strolling to the local farmers market on Sundays. The convenience of the train at the end of the street (Flinders St in 15, the G in less), the Eastern Freeway minutes away, and the many shopping and dining options so close.

We have been blessed with the best neighbours and a fantastic local community. We raised our three children in this house and they played in the street with a tribe of other kids who all went to the local kinder, and schools together. It’s lovely to see young families moving into the street and enjoying these same opportunities.

We’ve all made life friends in Alphington and many lasting memories of great times in this house. Birthdays with magicians pulling rabbits out of a hat, clowns, pony rides in the back garden, Sleep overs, rowdy milestone celebrations. Christmases with 36 around a long table, spilling into the garden under the big tree. We loved meals together under this tree.

3 bedrooms became 4, then filled with instruments, sewing projects, work desks, workout gear. The sandpit, slide and swing set have gone and the cubby house has morphed into a garden shed.

Our children have grown up now and the walls echo with happy memories of family life at 24 Kelvin Rd… its time for this house to welcome the new guard and we know it will carry the next family as well as it carried ours.

We loved working with Janine when we decided to sell up the family home. She has a good sense of the market and brought along plenty of humour , encouragement and confidence in the campaign to guide us through. She is a great communicator and draws people in without being pushy or intense. We had a great outcome and are grateful to the whole team at Nelson Alexander

Charlie was a delight to deal with when selling our home. He was prompt, professional and really respectful of our needs. He guided us through the whole process in what could be described as a robust and seamless campaign with a great auction result on the day. Thanks Charlie!
