Owners Notes
We bought this house nearly 10 years ago, due to its street frontage, high ceilings, unusually deep garden, and location on a quiet cul-de-sac. At that time, the house had not had much love for over 30 years. We lived in it for a few years to understand how the spaces worked, and how the light changed throughout the seasons. We then engaged an architect and set about renovating the home. We kept the period details but modernised the home with the highest quality materials and finishes for us to enjoy. Our main priority with our renovation was to bring light into every part of the home. We laboured over every detail, the floorboards, the carpet, the tiles, the windows, the skylights. It was truly a labour of love. The build was done by Blueprint Constructions and completed in 2018.
The house is a lovely place to be. Reading a book in the second bedroom in the afternoon as the sun comes streaming through the plantation shutters from the light court. Eating breakfast in the dining room with the green wall of jasmine (which is just about to bloom) as our backdrop. Making dinner as the sun sets over the (uninterrupted) view of the trees of Warr Park which frame our backyard. Entertaining family and friends on the back deck, the French doors open, enjoying a drink in the back yard. It is a fantastic entertaining house. The kitchen allows us to connect easily with the lounge area, dining and deck, and has been a real benefit of our floorplan.
Bishop Street is a very special place to live. Most people have lived here a long time and property is tightly held. We have stayed in this house longer than we intended mainly because we couldn't bear to leave the street and all our wonderful neighbours. It is rare to walk down the street without a chat and a catch up with a neighbour. Kids play together on the street on bikes or kicking the football. During COVID we spent many evenings sitting in the middle of our dead end street on deck chairs keeping sane and laughing when the world was spiralling out of control. This is a community we have been lucky to be a part of and will greatly miss.
Everything you need is within walking distance. The trains into the city from Anstey Station, the Upfield Bike Path, multiple parks, and the best coffee in the inner north, A Minor Place. The number one supermarket of the north is a 5 minute walk - IGA Brunswick (8 different types of artisan bread delivered daily!). Sydney Road and Lygon Street are both constantly evolving and every week there seems to be a new restaurant or café. Brunch at Lobbs, croissants from Wild Life Bakery, dinner on Lygon Street Brunswick East (Bar Idda, Old Palm Liquor, Rumi, Teta Mona, Bar Romantica, the list goes on), pasta and deli meats from Mediterranean Wholesalers. This is an exciting and vibrant place to live.
We have been so happy in this house and are leaving reluctantly to move closer to family.
