A unique history and exciting future combine
This stunning corner block beauty with a street frontage of approx. 7 meters and a rich history has been sensationally transformed for spacious, contemporary living in an exclusive Fitzroy North address. A classic corner store façade remains, paying homage to its original space as a general store as well as a deli and gallery space. Currently lending itself to formal living, the shopfront space offers endless potential and flexibility.
The ground floor accommodation features two striking separate formal living areas, huge formal dining, galley-style kitchen with European laundry and tranquil courtyard with ROW access. Upstairs, four bedrooms await - master with double built in robes and fireplace -, stylish bathroom, and retreat area. Hallmark features of the era remain, including soaring ceilings, decorative lead lighting, arched hallways with rosette detailing, multiple fireplaces, and ornate staircases - blending seamlessly with modern inclusions: updated timber flooring and split system heating and cooling.
Enviably positioned in the epicentre of the Edinburgh Gardens precinct, close to great shopping, fine dining, and a vibrant cafe scene, plus Inner Circle Rail Trail, Fitzroy High School and an array of city-bound transport options just a moment's walk away. A truly unique property with the proportions and potential to combine stylish living with exciting possibility in arguably the best pocket of Fitzroy North. There's so much on offer! NB: More internal photos will be online next week. Nelson Alexander Pty Ltd
Owners Notes
What we love about this home:
This has been the perfect home for family, lifestyle and entertaining. Our 3 children grew up here, each with a good size bedroom. The three large living areas meant there was always somewhere to escape to. The dining room is where we all met every night to eat and talk about the day.
The north-facing aspect meant every room receives generous sunlight. And the spacious rear courtyard has been a mixture of city oasis and popular entertaining area with friends and our lovely neighbours.
What we love about this suburb:
It’s just about perfect in amenity - great choices of local cafes, restaurants and shops in short walking distance. Plus the beauty and space of Edinburgh Gardens virtually on our doorstep. Terrific access to public transport. And our children all went to Nth Fitzroy Primary around the corner- where they, and we, made friendships that continue to this day.
Why we are selling:
We are moving to London for a job posting.
Any other information:
We are sad to leave the house that is filled with many happy memories, but feel the time is right for it to go to new owners who we’re sure will find as much to love about it as we have.
Also, the house has a long history: Built in 1884, named the Shamrock Store (both signed at the front) it has been a general store, delicatessen, tobacconist and more recently an art gallery.
