Owners Notes

What we love about this home:

Our family has loved living here since 2014, and we are really going to miss the beautiful garden and the memories of raising our 3 kids here. The house is full of character – the owner prior to us was a builder AND a horticulturalist. She told us the front of the house is over 100 years old, and she painstakingly restored it for her and her family. She planted the garden and even made all the stained-glass windows onsite in the studio out the back. A particular highlight for us has been sleeping with the balcony door open and waking up to the native birds in the garden. We get rosellas, magpies, and even the occasional Tawny Frogmouth.

We extended the house in 2019, adding the dining room, rumpus and garage, and installing the pool. We got it finished just before COVID lockdowns, and it was a haven for us as a family. The home office/studio out the back was a godsend during this time as it allowed us to have a bit of separation from the chaos of home schooling while we worked.

The attractions of the neighbourhood are obvious, but a few highlights from our perspective: There’s loads of great cafes in the area – our favourite is Suburbia on Grange Rd, and you can buy coffee from Seven Seeds there too for coffee making at home. Also worth checking out: “Outer Circle Social Club”, “Three locals”, and “15 Pounds”. Going out for a drink or dinner is accessible too – for a drink check out Rocket Wines, Mr Wednesdays, or the Grandview Hotel (they have a great comedy night every Wednesday night).

Darebin parklands is just down the road to the east. It’s a beautiful spot to walk the dog, go for a picnic, etc. There’s even an orienteering course there. Weve also enjoyed going for bike rides and runs along Darebin creek. There’s also beautiful spots to walk/run along the banks of the Yarra near Fairfield Boathouse.

Finally, there’s a bunch of great schools in the area, including Ivanhoe Grammer, Alphington Grammar and Ivanhoe Girls. But our kids went to Fairfield Primary and the Thornbury High and have loved it – we’re really happy with both those schools and the communities we became a part of.
